Housing market 'being seen in a positive light'

Housing market 'being seen in a positive light'Confidence continues to return to the property market, it has been revealed.

Figures released by the Building Societies Association (BSA) shows that more than half (58 per cent) of people think that now is a good time to purchase a home.

And although 49 per cent of those questioned currently believe that accessing a mortgage is a barrier to buying a property, this represents an improvement from the 58 and 55 per cent of respondents who felt this way when questioned in March and June respectively.

Those surveyed by the association also believe that house prices are set to rise by 1.6 per cent over the next 12 months, although those looking to further increase the value of their home may wish to consider carrying out DIY.

"It is clear that homebuyers are increasingly viewing the property market in a positive light as confidence increases in the market," Paul Broadhead, head of mortgage policy for the BSA, states.

Such news comes as the Council of Mortgage Lenders revealed the number of house purchase loans approved rose by 24 per cent over the course of July from the previous month.ADNFCR-2244-ID-19365823-ADNFCR
