Rics reveals first property rise since 2007

Rics reveals first property rise since 2007Property prices are on the up for the first time in more than two years, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) reveals.

Figures released by the organisation show that over the course of August, the balance of chartered surveyors reporting a rise in house values over the previous three months stood at ten per cent.

Not only does such a figure represent a rise from -9 per cent balance recorded in July, it is also the first positive score to have been seen since May 2007.

Meanwhile, the net balance of surveyors reporting a rise in enquiries from new buyers stands at 49 per cent.

"Although it is clear that house prices are now rising, it continues to be the lack of supply that is underpinning the recovery in most parts of the country," Rics spokesperson Jeremy Leaf states.

With values on the up, those wishing to further boost their home's worth may want to consider tackling DIY.

One home improvement people might wish to consider is adding a basement to their property as Ottokar Rosenberger, sales and marketing director for Ratedpeople.com, recently claimed that doing so can "greatly improve its market value".ADNFCR-2244-ID-19363697-ADNFCR
