Insulation 'best way to boost energy-efficiency'

Insulation 'best way to boost energy-efficiency'There are a number of ways in which people can improve their home's energy-efficiency, one property expert points out.

However, DIY enthusiasts may want to make the fitting of insulation to be their main priority, as Eco Home Exhibition curator Alex Goddard states it is "by far the most effective way" of reducing a property's impact on the environment.

She also claims that adding rainwater collection facilities on top of a roof is also a useful form of eco-friendly home improvement.

By doing this, Ms Goddard notes that the water saved will be able to be used for bathroom and kitchen appliances such as washing machines and toilets.

Other eco DIY advice saw consumers urged to double or triple-glaze their windows and take steps to seal up any draughts in their home.

Earlier this month, Michael Holmes, co-presenter of Channel Five's I Own Britain's Best Home, claimed homeowners are increasingly installing heat pumps into their properties as people become "more concerned about running costs and the environment".
