'Time being taken over' gardening improvements

'Time being taken over' gardening improvementsHomeowners are taking a more long-term approach to carrying out garden improvements, it has been suggested.

Matt James, garden designer and horticulturist, points out that when tackling this kind of DIY project people are increasingly taking their time to plan and prepare in order to get things right, rather than viewing it as something that can be tackled with a "quick-fix".

"It's very much a pursuit that takes a bit of time," Mr James claims, adding it could take several years for work on such an outdoor DIY project to be complete.

Such a trend, he suggests, could have been influenced by the financial downturn.

"A garden is ultimately never really finished, especially if it's got a significant planting design within it," the gardening expert adds.

His comments follow research carried out at the National Home Improvement Show last month indicating that 33 per cent of people believe that garden landscaping would help to boost the overall value of their home.
