DIY advice to save on energy bills

DIY advice to save on energy billsDIYers who want to do their bit for the environment and save money at the same time have been encouraged to install an energy smart meter in their homes by The Energy Savings Trust.

Phillip Sellwood, chief executive of the organisation, believes the devices will allow homeowners to have more control over the energy that they consume on a daily basis, this will help them to cut down on waste - making it easier to budget.

Commenting on the statistic that eight out of ten Brits have no idea how to read their energy bills, he stated that it is essential to better educate homeowners.

"You wouldn't go food shopping in a store with no prices listed but instead get a bill at the end that isn't itemised – this is exactly the way your energy costs are currently presented," he said.

Google recently released innovative new software called PowerMeter, which is available on the iGoogle homepage and gives users a detailed view of how much energy they are using, while offering the ability to compare usage with national averages.
