DIY help for Brits selling up

DIY help for Brits selling upA number of tips have been given to Britons who are looking to sell their house, but want to undertake a number of DIY projects to maximise the value of their properties.

Writing in the Mirror, Tricia Phillips suggested that homeowners' first port of call should be the local estate agent, where they can find out information about what buyers have been looking for and then use it to plan a home improvement scheme.

In addition, she stated that it is important that people recognise their own limitations as badly-performed jobs or ones that are only half-complete could bring down the property value.

Ms Phillips also suggested keeping an eye on the costs of major restructural work, ensuring they do not escalate and reduce the potential profit gained from the sale.

Finally and most simply, she explained that often a few small touches are enough - a general clean-up combined with some painting here and there could make a big difference.

A survey carried out at the National Home Improvement Show found that 27.7 per cent of respondents that were planning on carrying out a DIY project in the next year wanted to improve the value of their house.
