DIYers advised to 'bring some of Scotland into the home'

DIYers advised to 'bring some of Scotland into the home'Homeowners embarking on DIY projects or interior makeovers have been encouraged to implement traditional Scottish fabric - such as tweed or tartan - into their properties, which has recently become a big trend in UK households.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, founder of Scottish designer Voyage Decorations Ian Dykes stated that it has seen an influx of enquiries for its hand-stitched fabric - particularly for its Hector thistle design from the Caledon collection - to be used for curtains and cushions.

In addition, many Brits have requested the material for upholstery and bespoke schemes within the home from company Hinnigan, while Morton Young & Borland, which has been in the Scottish fabric industry for over a century, is also finding business to be good.

Head designer Margo Graham commented: "We now have the wallpapers, lace and Madras panels, and the tablecover collection, so we can go straight to interior designers. We have had a good response so far."

Morton Young & Borland lists Ralph Lauren as a client and is the only company in the world to produce Cotton Madras and Scottish Lace.
