DIYers 'could learn from Lancashire renovation project'

DIYers 'could learn from Lancashire renovation project'Home improvement enthusiasts who are undertaking ambitious DIY projects could follow the lead of a recent renovation scheme in Lancashire.

Pendle Borough Council decided to restore dilapidated Victorian terraced houses Whitefield, Nelson to make them more sustainable, modern and suitable to live in, which could prove to be a reference for Brits wanting to transform an old property.

The council made use of extra insulation, light tubes, wet rooms and a number of products from Potterton Solar - including in-roof solar water heating panels on south-facing roofs.

Simon Osborne, specification channel manager for the company, commented on the success of the project.

"When you see the dilapidated condition of some of these homes prior to work starting and look at them today, you'd never believe they are the same properties," he said.

It was recently announced by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings that it will run a course on January 23rd in Somerset designed to offer advice on how to maintain classic terraced houses.
