He suggested getting insulation fitted as a simple procedure that can be done reasonably cheaply, while those who want to take further steps could install a water-efficient boiler, which would cost a maximum of £3,000.

Money saved through expected reduced fuel and water bills could offset the original outlay and he added that people can make changes to their lifestyles that would also be beneficial.
