    DIY projects 'getting more personal'

DIY projects 'getting more personal'British DIYers are focusing on adding a personal touch to their homes rather than making them more attractive to potential buyers, according to House Beautiful magazine.

The publication's editor Julia Goodwin spoke following the results of a survey released by Aspect Maintenance last week that showed 70 per cent of London residents plan to carry out a home improvement project in the coming year.

She commented that Brits are increasingly opting against moving house in the current economic climate and instead are deciding to renovate their properties in a way that appeals specifically to them and not prospective purchasers.

"The days of just a quick tart-up to sell, make money and move on are long gone. Painting everything beige, making it smart and making it attractive to an estate agent - that way of thinking has disappeared forever," she said.

She added that DIYers are also making energy efficiency and eco-friendly upgrades much more of a priority when it comes to home improvement.

Just 14 per cent of respondents to the Aspect Maintenance poll want to carry out a DIY project to make their houses easier to sell.
