DIY tips for avoiding water damage

DIY tips for avoiding water damageHomeowners have been urged by Congregational & General to carry out a number of simple DIY projects to help them reduce the risk of water damage in their property.

According to the insurance firm, poorly-fitted wet rooms and bathrooms, in addition to frozen pipes and leaky appliances could leave householders having to register expensive insurance claims.

It stated that homeowners need to deal with any problems they notice as soon as possible to avoid problems with their cover and escalating damage in the property.

Additionally, all pipes and water tanks should be fully lagged to help reduce the risk of freezing in the first place.

Furthermore, loft insulation needs to be placed on top of pipes - insulation beneath the pipes could stop rising heat from reaching them, making it more likely they will freeze.

Halifax Insurance recently revealed that the average cost to fix a burst pipe and the damage it causes is approximately £2,000.
