'Biggest ever' energy bills could prompt green DIY action

'Biggest ever' energy bills could prompt green DIY actionDIYers have once again been advised to take energy saving measures around the home as Brits face their biggest ever winter fuel bills, according to moneysupermarket.com.

Research from the price comparison website has found that since 2003 annual household energy bills have risen by 127 per cent.

Scott Byrom, utilities manager with moneysupermarket.com, notes that many people must prepare to pay "the biggest winter energy bill they've ever had to pay".

Moneysupermarket.com has given consumers a host of tips to minimise bills, noting that average bill costs have increased by 20 per cent in the last 12 months.

People have been told to look at getting insulation fitted, undertake draught exclusion around the home and consider getting double-glazing installed in an attempt to slash energy bills.

This advice follows claims from Ellie Horwitch-Smith, energy management expert with Faithful + Gould, who advised consumers to heat-proof their homes if they wished to "rapidly cut their energy costs".
