DIY skills need to be 'integrated into family life'

DIY skills need to be 'integrated into family life'Basic DIY skills need to be "integrated back into the family life" and passed on to the next generation, it has been claimed.

According to Francesca Gamble, press officer for the Ideal Home Show, many Britons have become "lazy" about DIY skills and are failing to teach the techniques to their children.

She explained that although homeowners are keen to watch TV programmes about DIY, they are less enthusiastic about picking up their tools and making their own home improvement changes.

However, Ms Gamble said: "If you can just have the little bit of knowledge and knowhow then everybody can do it."

She added that children will not be able to develop basic DIY skills if they are unable to learn from their parents.

Meanwhile, Halifax Home Insurance revealed recently that two in three Brits lack the necessary spatial awareness to complete DIY tasks.

Indeed, the report also claimed that one in ten Britons cannot change a lightbulb.
