    Research identifies new DIY trend

Research identifies new DIY trendA report has suggested that the economic downturn has created a new trend in the DIY world.

Researchers at Moen have claimed that many homeowners lack the money to undertake big DIY projects and have, therefore, opted for a more strategic approach to home design.

According to the research, rather than tackle a major home improvement project, some consumers are instead refreshing individual rooms and undertaking small projects one at a time.

The new home improvement trend has been labelled "Remodel-Lite" by the researchers, who say that the new approach goes beyond quick-fixes and decor updates.

Jack Suvak, Moen's director of market research and insights, said: "In essence, the Remodel-Lite consumer is one who wishes to refresh a room with only a few items - and with a minimal investment."

Further to this, Mr Suvak claimed that homeowners remain keen to carry out DIY changes that "make a significant impact on their home, in terms of both style and functionality".

Meanwhile, homeowners were recently advised to cut the cost of their utilities bills by making DIY improvements.

Writing for the Daily Mirror, Ruki Sayid and Tricia Phillips urged Britons to make changes that could significantly reduce the cost of household bills.
