Decorating is affordable for those wanting to improve homes

Decorating is affordable for those wanting to improve homesDIY novices have been told simple redecoration in the home could prove worthwhile as it could spice up a property at a relatively small outlay.

Duncan Hayes, the editor at Build It Magazine, has commented that individuals planning a DIY project do not have to tackle something on a large scale to make noticeable improvements in the home.

He suggests that general redecoration could have a positive impact, which may include painting walls a more modern colour.

Mr Hayes said: "Decorating is a way to make your mark and improve your home at a very affordable cost, with very apparent results - as opposed to doing something like repointing or chimney cleaning which will cost you and not be terribly apparent."

Meanwhile, he added that more women may be getting involved in DIY because of a rise in single occupancy households and the desire to save money by not paying anybody else to complete work.

Tesco recently reported that more households are looking to redecorate, with sales of paint, rollers and brushes increasing by 33 per cent in the past year.
