Expert: FiTs could create a 'green DIY revolution'

Expert: FiTs could create a 'green DIY revolution'Feed-in Tariffs (FiTs), which are designed to support the adoption of microgeneration technologies, could stimulate a 'revolution' in green DIY improvements, an expert has suggested.

Nick Medic, of RenewableUK, insisted that the scheme has made it simpler for residential property owners to benefit from using wind and solar technology systems, Rated People reports.

"It enables anyone with a sufficient resource to get involved, so it's a revolutionary thing," he told the website.

Through the FiTs scheme, Britons are guaranteed a minimum monthly amount for the power generated using renewable sources.

Added to this, they are also able to earn extra cash by exporting energy to the grid.

Meanwhile, new research has revealed that more than half of British homeowners are improving their properties through DIY work.

According to Halifax, the average spend on DIY work over the last 12 months was £6,362, a £1,000 increase on the year before.
