Good looks and comfort can go hand-in-hand, DIY Britons told

Good looks and comfort can go hand-in-hand, DIY Britons toldDIY enthusiasts have been told that they need not "sacrifice good looks for comfort" this summer.

In an article for, Carolyn Muse-Grant explains that the summer season is when "contemporary design really shines".

According to Ms Muse-Grant, large, open, white spaces remain cool in any climate.

She said: "Minimalist furnishings, bare floors and other touches, such as concrete countertops or other solid surfaces, make spaces seem cooler."

This is a complaint of some about contemporary design, with Ms Muse-Grant, adding that "as modern design fans know, when done right, it's perfect in any climate".

Added to this, she recommended switching heavy carpets for a rug made of natural material.

Meanwhile, Emily Jenkinson, writing for the Independent, claimed recently that an increasing number of DIY Britons are opting for vibrant colours over muted shades and neutral tones.

Many of the new products on the UK market are following this trend, Ms Jenkinson insisted.
