Keep interior design natural, says DIY expert

Keep interior design natural, says DIY expertInterior designers should focus on "keeping things natural, low key and sophisticated" this summer, a DIY expert has claimed.

According to Anna-Marie DeSouza, deputy editor at Build It magazine, designers are "big on white walls and statement pieces, coupled with clean lines in the kitchen and bathroom".

"On the same natural theme, eco-paints, organic wallpapers and natural flooring finishes are all top of the style list," Ms DeSouza added.

She also advised Britons seeking to improve their garden in anticipation of a warm summer to invest in a small patio kit or begin planting their own seeds.

"Planting is all about striking a good balance between floral beauty and veg patch efficiency - growing your own is bigger than ever before," she said.

Meanwhile, Shane Inman, president of US interior design firm the Inman Company, recently suggested that lighting effects can radically alter the appearance of a kitchen.

Writing for Traverse City Business News, Mr Inman claimed that lighting is the most important element when it comes to remodelling a home.
