DIY Britons have been warned of the dangers posed by asbestos in the home.In a bid to raise awareness of the issue, DIY superstar Craig Phillips and Dame Helena Shovelton, chief executive for the British Lung Foundation, stressed the importance of safety to home improvement enthusiasts.Mr Phillips warned: "One person is dying every five hours in the UK of mesothelioma, which is a disease caused directly by asbestos."Dame Shovelton, meanwhile, urged DIY Britons to be "asbestos aware", adding that it is imperative people consider the potential risks before undertaking a home improvement project.This follows an article which recently appeared on issaquahpress.com that warned of some of the safety precautions individuals should take before undertaking DIY work in their backyard.To this aim, the website advised homeowners to "avoid potential hazards associated with striking or digging up underground utilities".Posted by Thomas Morris
