Attract birds by adding feeders to gardens

Attract birds by adding feeders to gardens People looking to attract birds to their garden may wish to undertake DIY projects to install feeders after one expert highlighted the products.

Kirsi Peck, wildlife advisor for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), said that adding a few feeders across gardens can bring birds in.

She added that the feeders should be well spread out so that the birds don't stick too close together and advised homeowners on keeping them clean.

"Regularly clean the feeders and make sure there is no uneaten food and droppings mixing together - basic hygiene to make sure you don't get any bacterial or viral infections turning up," Ms Peck recommended.

"We wouldn't eat our dinner from a dirty plate, so why force a bird to do so?"

Earlier this year, a report from insurance comparison website found that three-quarters of Britons plan to undertake some sort of garden project in 2010.

A total of £6.8 billion is expected to be spent on garden DIY and other outdoor tasks this year.
