DIY waste warning ahead of bank holiday

DIY projects are popular across UK homes during the summer bank holiday and one local council has issued advice on tackling waste associated with it.

Officers from Maldon District Council have distributed leaflets to residents to encourage people to deal with DIY waste effectively, the Yellow Advertiser reported.

The local authority is also putting up posters and speaking to individuals about their responsibilities to the community.

In addition, council workers will be educating Maldon inhabitants about fly-tipping and will urge them to not to continue this practice.

Brenda Keighly, chairman of Maldon council's Community Services Committee, told the news provider: "These events will provide information about the legislation governing fly-tipping and highlight the very positive actions that individuals can take to support the council in this area."

Waste from DIY should be disposed of in recycling centres or by paying a waste carrier to remove it. People who are involved directly or indirectly in fly-tipping can face fines running into thousands of pounds.
