    Foam insulation DIY advice

Foam insulation DIY adviceAdvice has been given to homeowners about sealing their attics using foam insulation.

In a piece for the Seattle Times, Dwight Barnett answers a home improvement question from a reader about the practice.

The expert informs DIY enthusiasts that it is possible to use foam in order to stop air leaks, although it is important to make sure the foaming agent does not ooze through any gaps.

He adds: "It is recommended that a heating/cooling vent be installed in the foamed attic to condition the space. Expanding foam should also be used to completely seal crawl-space foundation walls, the ends of the floor joists (rim/band joists) and the band joists in basements.

"Low expanding foam can be injected into the existing wall cavities of older homes if you are sure there is no older knob and tube wiring in the walls."

Loft and attic insulation is vital to homes as it can help to keep heat in and drastically cut down energy bills.ADNFCR-2244-ID-800019881-ADNFCR
