DIY carpet cleaning removes candle wax in a jiffy

DIY carpet cleaning removes candle wax in a jiffyThe cold, dark nights are drawing in and homeowners everywhere will be lighting scented candles to create a homely feel in their living rooms.

But while candles look and smell lovely on a winter's night, hot wax can be a nightmare if it gets on your furniture, or even worse, on your carpet.

Fortunately, expert Allison Lind has offered some top tips on how to remove it quickly and easily, without damaging the fibres.

In an article for the online magazine Shelterpop, she said the first step is to remove any excess wax that can be picked off without disturbing the pile.

Next, you should place a piece of paper from a grocery bag or something similar over the spillage and then press down on it with a warm iron.

This will melt the wax and the paper will absorb it, creating a grease-like stain.

If the wax is proving particular tough to remove, the process can be repeated, but make sure you apply ice to the spillage first to re-harden it.

For other carpet stains or a general build up of dirt, a carpet cleaning machine can be hired to give your living room some extra sparkle.
