DIY kitchen installation can save money

DIY kitchen installation can save moneyCarrying out DIY kitchen installation can save homeowners thousands of pounds in professional labour, according to one expert.

Tim Doherty, managing director of BuildStore's National Self Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon, explained that pulling out an old kitchen and fitting a new one can take up to ten days.

He explained that as well as carpentry work, there could be some plumbing and rewiring involved in the project.

Renovators who are confident in their DIY skills could take on the job themselves, saving between £2,000 and £3,000.

However, those who are less knowledgeable when it comes to home improvement could simply carry out the first phase of the work and still save money.

"You could save yourself a few hundred pounds by ripping out the old kitchen and then letting the professionals step in," Mr Doherty explained.

Another DIY project that can lead to savings on labour is laying loft insulation.

Mr Doherty said around £300 can be saved by homeowners who do the job themselves without calling in the experts.
