Current economic conditions provide a good platform to begin DIY projects to homes, an industry expert has said.Tim Doherty, managing director of the National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon, explained that more people consider self-build programmes during tight financial circumstances. He added that DIY self-build projects have done well in the last few years because there are many opportunities in the sector."People have always selected self-build because of the economic gain," Mr Doherty noted."The fact that there is a recession might mean there are a few more people with a little more time on their hands, but I think it is the economic environment which is providing conditions that make it easier to acquire land, which is probably the biggest hurdle."Figures from the National Self Build & Renovation Centre show that self-builders spend £1.4 billion on building materials for DIY projects each year.Posted by Jenny Marshall
