Join the 'grow you own' revolution with DIY garden improvements

Join the 'grow you own' revolution with DIY garden improvementsBy making a few DIY improvements to their gardens, homeowners could join the 'grow your own' revolution.

Marc Rosenberg, news editor at Amateur Gardening Magazine, said people are growing fruit and vegetables in their gardens for a number of reasons.

He said the trend has partly been fuelled by the recession as people look for ways to save money.

And he pointed out that people are also a lot more concerned today about where their food comes from.

But most of those growing their own produce do it simply because it's satisfying, Mr Rosenberg insisted.

"Gardening is Britain's number one hobby," he said. "Growing flowers has been popular for years.

"To grow vegetables which you can harvest and enjoy with your family is a great benefit and people enjoy getting out there and actually nurturing something for a bit and to see it right through to their plate."

Homeowners eager to start growing their own fruit and vegetables could carry out a few garden improvements to help them in their quest, such as building raised beds and possibly even constructing a greenhouse.
