Bank holiday DIYers urged to stay safe

Stay Safe - lets-do-diy.comThose looking to do some DIY this bank holiday weekend have been reminded of the importance of staying safe.

Pointing out that an increasing number of people are looking to do DIY in an effort to save money, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) states that home improvement enthusiasts need to be honest about their level of skill in such work so as to avoid suffering an accident.

"In the long term, it could save you time and money, but as well as suffering an injury, you might not make a success of the task and that could end up costing more," Jo Stagg, a spokesperson for RoSPA, tells This is Grimsby.

Those planning on tackling some DIY this bank holiday weekend are advised to plan ahead and ensure they keep their work area clear, as Ms Stagg states that the majority of accidents occur when people slip, trip or fall over items.

She also points to RoSPA research revealing that some 200,000 Britons went to hospital last year following a DIY-related injury.

Meanwhile, a recent Evening Gazette article advised those DIY enthusiasts looking to remove polystyrene tiles from ceilings to ensure they do not cut themselves while using a stripping knife to take down such tiles.
