    Brits warned of subsidence risk

Subsidence Risk - lets-do-diy.comWith the summer firmly in place, homeowners are being warned of the threat of subsidence.

Home improvement enthusiasts may be interested to hear claims made by RIAS that with this summer expected to see above-average temperatures, London, Colchester and Milton Keynes are among the areas where homes are set to be at greatest risk of suffering such damage.

It was also reported Peterborough and Chelmsford could be areas particularly affected.

Janet Connor, managing director of RIAS, states: "Whilst we are all delighted that the summer is here, the hotter weather does have long-term implications for homeowners."

Consequently, consumers are advised to check their pipe work for any signs of leaking, while analysing soil type can help to determine whether a home may be at greater risk of being a victim of subsidence, such as those with a high concentration of sand, gravel or chalk.

Earlier this month, moneysupermarket.com claimed that people should make sure any trees located close to a property are pruned on a regular basis.
