Brits get green DIY idea for rooftops

Brits get green DIY idea for rooftopsAdvice has been given to DIYers hoping to carry out an eco-friendly home improvement project with a difference.

Sedum Supply has suggested homeowners take advantage of the benefits its Green Roof could bring.

The product is a planted rooftop garden, which can either include sedum or wild flowers and aims to improve the aesthetics of a home while also helping out the environment.

Local sewage systems could find themselves under less strain after heavy rainfall, with the plants taking up more water than an average roof, which could reduce the threat of flooding.

As a natural habitat for wildlife such as butterflies and insects, Green Roofs could improve the biodiversity of urban areas, while providing an extra layer of insulation to the building - helping to retain warmth, decrease energy bills and lessen noise levels coming into the building.

Sedum Supply is based in Lancashire and was established by partners Karen McMahon and Daren Lawler.
