DIY homeowners encouraged to increase energy efficiency

DIY homeowners encouraged to increase energy efficiency Now could be a good time for DIY enthusiasts to consider increasing the energy efficiency of their homes, a Guardian report has stated.

Russell Smith, director of Parity Projects, urged homeowners to consider DIY eco-friendly home improvements, which can help Britons save money on bills and improve the environment.

"It's the perfect opportunity to reduce the costs of doing the energy efficiency things," he said.

Meanwhile, James Randerson, in the same newspaper, revealed that his annual energy bills will approach the £1,500 mark if he does not implement any energy efficient improvements to his home.

As a consequence, he had an energy survey of his property done to find out what kind of projects he could undertake to boost the efficiency of his home.

Mr Randerson discovered that the 11 recommendations made to him will save him £632 annually at an upfront cost of £920.

Researchers at the Califiornia Institute of Technology, meanwhile, recently discovered how to make flexible solar cells that only require one per cent of the material needed to make traditional cells.

It is thought that the new solar cells will make it easier for DIY enthusiasts to make their homes more eco-friendly.
