DIYers warned of possible energy bill increase

DIYers warned of possible energy bill increaseDIY enthusiasts may wish to make their home more energy efficient, with uSwitch warning of an impending rise in energy bills.

The price comparison website responded to news from energy watchdog Ofgem, with proposals published for a £233.5 billion investment programme into Britain's electricity network.

USwitch predicts that to fund the scheme, consumers' energy bills will rise by an average of £548 each year.

Will Marples, energy expert at uSwitch, said the public has a responsibility "to start taking action now to future-proof themselves against far higher energy bills".

He added: "We have to remember that energy bills doubled in the last five years alone … households will have to adapt their behaviour accordingly".

Earlier this month, moneysupermarket.com advised Brits of a host of amendments they could make around the home to improve energy efficiency.

Double glazing, effective insulation and draft excluder packs were all put forward as measures homeowners should take to help slash the cost of energy bills.
