Eco DIY 'results in major energy savings'

Eco DIY - lets-do-diy.comA passion for eco-friendly DIY has seen a family in the north-west significantly slash their utility bill expenditure, it has been revealed.

By carrying out numerous home improvements, Andrew and Emma Cook indicate to the Daily Telegraph that they have saved thousands of pounds in gas and electricity bills for their 18-room mansion in Cumbria.

Indeed, such work has seen the installation of energy-efficient lighting, loft insulation and triple-glazed windows, as Mr Cook states that the home improvements are proof "that large, old country houses needn't be energy black holes to steer away from".

He also tells the publication that although his home was built more than a century ago, various DIY measures carried out now means that he is confidence that it "has more hi-tech, energy-efficient controls than the most modern new developer-built home".

But the Cook family has not been alone in getting to grips with home improvements on older properties as Sarah Harrison revealed to the Independent last month that implementing various energy-saving features has seen her Victorian era property achieve 80 per cent efficiency savings.
