    Eco-award could provide DIY inspiration

Eco-award could provide DIY inspirationBrits looking for DIY tips on how to make their homes more eco-friendly could find inspiration after a Barnet council house was recognised in the latest National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) Awards.

According to the Green Building Press, a property in the town's Berkeley Crescent took second place in the big green home improvement category due to its energy-efficient appliances, solar panels, composter, tap flow limiters, and loft and under-floor insulation.

Richard Cornelius, Barnet's cabinet member for community services, commented that the house could help homeowners carry out their own green upgrades.

"I am delighted that the eco-house has been recognised nationally. It shows lots of ideas as to what can be done with a typical house to minimise carbon pollution and save on expensive electricity and gas bills," he said.

The NHIC aims to promote the benefits of home improvement schemes to Britons, represent the renovation industry and encourage private investment in the housing sector.
