Scottish homeowners to get insulation help

Scottish homeowners to get insulation helpHomeowners in Scotland looking to begin DIY projects to insulate their properties may soon be able to benefit from financial help.

The Scottish government is launching a new programme that will see around 200,000 households in 19 local authority areas offered free insulation or discounts on installation and materials.

As well as reducing energy bills by keeping heat inside the home, loft and cavity wall insulation can also help homeowners reduce their carbon footprint.

Scotland's housing and communities Minister Alex Neil said: "Offering householders a means to keep the heat in is a great way to help families, the elderly and others to save money.

"If we have a winter like last winter this will be more important than ever."

According to the Energy Saving Trust, cavity wall insulation can save households around £110 a year on their fuel costs, while loft insulation can cut another £145 off their annual bills.
