Eco-friendly DIY 'saves time and money'

Indeed, research by the Energy Saving Trust (EST) indicates that by carrying out such work consumers could be some £220 million better off each year.

Furthermore, these kinds of home improvement - which could include draughtproofing and fitting insulation - could slash Britain's carbon footprint by 1.2 million tonnes.

However, the EST reveals more than half (53 per cent) of people claim they are not confident about basic maintenance work, as 63 per cent of 'DIY shy' Brits avoiding topping up loft insulation.

Philip Selwood, chief executive of the trust, states: "Many Brits are shying away from easy cash savings by ignoring simple, energy saving tasks, which need to be done around the home."

Meanwhile, recent research by reveals that over three-quarters (78 per cent) of UK households are more energy efficient now than they were a year ago.
