Families invited to take part in DIY TV show

DIY Show - lets-do-diy.comFamilies are being encouraged to tackle DIY projects on the small screen.

Sky is calling for people to take part in a forthcoming Sky Real Lives series, which aims to get people to carry out home improvements themselves, rather than call in a professional tradesman, reports the Reading Chronicle.

The programme will involve households being challenged to put their DIY skills to the test in areas such as carpentry and gardening, in an effort to herald a return to the make-do and mend ethos that was prevalent during war-time Britain.

But those appearing on the show will not be alone in such work, as Shirley Clarkson, mother of Top Gear host Jeremy, will be on hand to provide DIY tips.

However, her motor-mad son appears to be unlikely to make an appearance.

"Jeremy's utterly useless with DIY. He only has one tool in the house and that's a hammer. He says if you can't do it with a hammer, don't bother doing it," she claims.

Peter Jones - father of former international footballer and actor Vinnie - will also appear on the show.

Meanwhile, Mick McCarthy, manager of Championship football side Wolverhampton Wanderers, recently revealed how he has been getting up early on a daily basis to tackle DIY projects around his home.
