DIY shopping on increase among women

DIY shopping on increase among womenA rising number of women are taking on DIY tasks as they give up on waiting for their partners to complete any work, it has been stated.

The Daily Telegraph reports on customer research from Tesco, which showed that a rising number of women are picking up a screwdriver.

Some 60 per cent of women were now heading to the shops to buy DIY items, which is a stark rise from the one in five females doing this a decade ago.

Meanwhile, the publication also notes that Dobbies garden centre is particularly witnessing growth in the number of female garden accessories being purchased.

Spokesperson Gail McGibbon highlighted that this was a result of failing patience, as men never got around to beginning work they said they would do.

According to the news provider, she said: "In the last 12 months sales of pink ladies garden secateurs, pink-handled trowels, pink garden gloves and pink kneeler pads are up as much as 170 per cent.

"The trend shows women are doing an increasing number of small jobs around the garden because they are fed up of waiting for their other halves to get off the sofa."

Associate editor at House Beautiful magazine Liz Murphy recently remarked that homeowners do not require a garden to grow flowers, as hanging baskets, small patios and balconies also provide ample space.
