Homeowners can cut the cost of their utilities bills by making some DIY improvements, it has been claimed.Writing for the Daily Mirror, Ruki Sayid and Tricia Phillips have urged Britons to make DIY changes that could significantly reduce the cost of household bills ahead of the "big chill next year".More particulalry, the journalists identified roof insulation as an effective way of saving money by ensuring that heat is not allowed to escape."Laying down the lagging could save you £150 a year. If you've already insulated the loft, topping it up to 270mm will slash a further £45 off your bill," they noted. The pair also explained that cavity wall insulation can help Britons to save money, adding that there are currently 6.3 million homes without adequate levels of wall insulation.Meanwhile, the Guardian newspaper recently claimed that roof insulation is one of the easiest ways for DIY enthusiasts to save money on household bills.
