Women getting involved in DIY projects

Women getting involved in DIY projectsThe UK is becoming a nation of handywomen, according to a new survey which shows that the majority of today's females have tried their hand at DIY.

Bosch Power Tools found that 78 per cent of ladies have embarked on a home improvement project by themselves.

Of these, some 69 per cent said they did so to save money.

Almost half of the women questioned claimed their creativity makes them good at DIY, while 72 per cent said they believe girls are better home improvers because they have more patience than men.

Bosch DIY expert Chris Tidy said: "The DIY gender gap is clearly closing.

"However, as men are traditionally driven by a desire to fix things to display their authority, it's interesting to see that women are using DIY instead as a way to express creativity in the home."

Meanwhile, a survey by Halifax Home Insurance has revealed that younger people shy away from DIY because the lack the necessary skills.

Some 45 per cent of those questioned said they would not attempt to put up shelves, while 63 per cent would not try to hang wallpaper.
