Women given DIY tips at course

Women given DIY tips at courseKeen female renovators in Oxford have been given DIY advice on how to perform basic, everyday jobs in the home as part of an Oxfordshire Women's Training course.

Reported in the Oxford Mail, the sessions are aimed at people who simply want to learn more skills, those wishing to take up a new career or single mums who have to rely on themselves to carry out tasks such as fitting shelves and drilling.

Project co-ordinator Josie Silva believes it is important for women to know how to do DIY tasks themselves, which can also cut down on unnecessary costs of seeking help from professionals.

"Often things happen around the house and they feel when they get someone in to do it, they get ripped off and they don't understand the nature of the work," she told the paper.

Courses are also available from Oxford Women's Training in media, construction, motoring and technology as it aims to stop gender inequality and build the confidence of working females.
