DIY improvements 'could help boost property safety'

Boost Property Safety - lets-do-diy.comHomeowners looking to increase their feelings of safety in their local area are being advised to consider a number of home improvement projects.

DIY advice from Halifax Home Insurance has seen people be advised to install security lighting to help deter would-be criminals.

Meanwhile, the firm states that laying gravel on driveways can help to alert homeowners when someone is approaching.

Such recommendations follow research revealing two-thirds of Britons feel proud about the area where they live, with just under half (47 per cent) of such consumers citing being safe as one of the main factors behind this.

Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager for Halifax Home Insurance, points out: "Not only is safety in an area a top reason for feeling 'regional pride', it is also top on the priority for most people when deciding where to live."

Earlier this month, West Mercia Police urged homeowners to take steps to bolster the safety of their garden by installing external lighting and fitting locks to sheds.
