'Keep safe when tackling DIY'

Keep Safe When Doing DIY - lets-do-diy.comPeople are being reminded of the need to stay safe when it comes to DIY projects.

As an increasing number of Britons are looking to get to grips with home improvements instead of paying for a professional to do such work, as the economic crisis continues, Hampshire county council is advising residents not to tackle projects beyond their level of skill.

In addition, officers from the local authority's trading standards team are urging DIY enthusiasts to always wear the right safety clothing and ensure that tools are kept in good condition, the Southern Daily Echo reports.

Taking the time to be careful with home improvements was recommended as the council reveals it has received an increase in the number of calls relating to DIY disasters, with such incidents including burns caused by chemicals in cement and injuries suffered following a drill breaking.

Such advice could be especially useful as research from MyVoucherCodes.co.uk revealed that some 43 per cent of people are looking to spend time and money tackling home improvements this summer.
