DIY 'will increase during credit crunch'

DIY 'will increase during credit crunch'DIY projects are set to see a growth as a result of the recession as more people look to save money by doing small home repairs, according to IQ Living.

The bathroom product company expects a large increase in the number of people buying accessories and spare parts in the coming months.

It believes that customers will be wary of shelling out hundreds on a new shower unit as a result of something like a broken bracket, when they can simply buy a replacement at a small cost and repair it themselves.

E-commerce manager of the business Michael Core explained: "Many of the 'little' jobs in the bathroom are easily done by the average person, you don't necessarily need a specialist to come in and fit a new shower head."

A survey carried out at the National Home Improvement Show in September revealed that 91.3 per cent of respondents were looking to begin a home improvement project within the coming year, with 56.6 per cent wanting to make their homes more comfortable to live in.
