Majority of Brits 'planning DIY projects'

DIY In The Next Few Months - lets-do-diy.comThe majority of people are looking to do some DIY in the next few months.

Research carried out by Legal & General reveals more than half (61 per cent) of Britons are planning to get to grips with home improvements in the next six months, with a fifth of these pointing out that they will be spending time gardening.

However, there also appears to be a need to do DIY inside the home, as 32 per cent of those questioned claim that their bathroom is the one part of their property that needs improving the most.

Some 38 per cent, meanwhile, believe their kitchen needs the most work.

And as the economic crisis rumbles on, the firm urges people against scrimping back on carrying out day-to-day home improvements as this could end up costing them in the long run.

Ruth Wilkins, head of communications for Legal & General's general insurance business, claims: "While major home improvements have been put on hold, choosing not to do what may be considered more cosmetic home improvements to save some pennies, could actually be essential home maintenance that should still be done."

Meanwhile, recent research by Synovate revealed an increasing number of people are looking to do DIY as visits to gardening centres and home improvement stores have risen significantly in recent weeks.
