'More imaginative approach' being taken to DIY

Imaginative DIY - lets-do-diy.comBrits are becoming increasingly adventurous with home improvements.

Such is the assertion of Gill Batchelor, of residential sales and lettings agency Chesterton Humberts, who tells the Daily Mail that people are looking to alternative ways of increasing the amount of room they have in a home.

"People are becoming more imaginative and resourceful in the way they use space," she tells the publication, adding that just a few years ago homeowners tended to only opt for loft extensions and conservatories.

Meanwhile, DIY fans may be interested to hear Foxtons' Ian Brownridge claiming that - if done effectively - unusual home improvements can help a property to stand out of the crowd and increase its saleability.

However, estate agent Jo Eccles claimed that those looking to sell a property quickly may want to play it safe when it comes to home improvements.

Speaking last month, Terry Jordan, head of mortgages at the Co-operative Bank, claimed that Brits are increasingly looking to improve their property not only to make it more aesthetically pleasing but also to boost its overall value.
