New bathroom 'popular home improvement choice'

New Bathroom Popular Choice - lets-do-diy.comFitting a new bathroom is one of the country's most popular home improvement projects, new research shows.

In a study carried out by Halifax, just under a fifth (18 per cent) of home improvers have opted for a bathroom, with such a project costing an average of £3,000.

Meanwhile, fitting a new kitchen typically costs £6,300 - making it the single most expensive home improvement project.

Stephen Noakes, commercial director for the Lloyds Banking Group, claims that as current conditions in the housing market are causing many Brits to choose to stay put rather than move, "it is no surprise that we've seen an increase in people adding space to their property to make it more suitable for their current lifestyle".

Overall, the typical amount of money spent on home improvements - excluding moves to extend the amount of space in a property - over the last 12 months stand at £5,300.

Meanwhile, recent Legal & General research revealed that some 61 per cent of people are planning home improvement projects over the next six months.
