    Older people 'suffer DIY mishaps'

Older People 'Suffer DIY Mishaps' - lets-do-diy.comOlder people appear to be of significant risk at suffering from a DIY disaster, it has been revealed.

Research carried out by Saga Home Insurance reveals that some 31 per cent of the over-50s have hurt themselves while getting to grips with a home improvement project, meaning that getting DIY advice before starting work could be advisable.

It was also revealed that just under half (47 per cent) of older people have called in a family member or partner for assistance with DIY.

However, ensuring that adequate home insurance is in place ahead of picking up tools could also be recommended.

Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of Saga Financial Services, points out: "Homeowners should check they have accidental damage cover as part of their home insurance, just in case their DIY dreams turn into DIY disasters."

Last month, Jo Stagg, spokesperson for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, told This is Grimsby that DIY enthusiasts need to ensure that they have the right level of skill to carry out home improvements before starting work.
