Over a quarter 'suffer DIY disaster'

DIY Disaster - lets-do-diy.comWith the bank holiday weekend over, people across the country may well have been taking the time to get to grips with DIY.

However, it appears that a significant number of home improvement fans could have suffered a domestic disaster while carrying out such work.

Research carried out by Ask Jeeves reveals that over a quarter (28 per cent) of people have injured themselves while doing DIY.

And it appears older people are particularly likely to have an accident, with 32 per cent of those aged 45 or above having a home improvement mishap.

Figures from the online search engine also reveal that while splinters, minor cuts and bruises tend to be the most common DIY injuries, six per cent of home improvement enthusiasts have been in need of hospital attention.

Last month, the London Fire Brigade advised DIY enthusiasts using electrical extension cables that such wires should always be fully uncoiled as otherwise they can overheat and cause a fire.
