A number of schoolchildren from Barmston near Sunderland have spent their summer holidays brushing up their painting skills in community DIY projects. The group of 26 teenage volunteers worked with Oxclose and District Young People's Project (ODYPP) to paint a number of buildings in the centre of the north-east village.Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, Martin Robinson, a project worker with ODYPP, praised the work of the young children on the DIY projects."It was really all the children's idea. They came up with it and asked if it would be possible," said Mr Robinson."They made a really good job of it all. It is all their planning and hard work."A similar event was recently organised by housing provider Sanctuary Shaftesbury alongside residents and children from a housing scheme in Dursley, Gloucestershire.Sanctuary Housing provided funds to enable residents to plant flowers and shrubs in gardens and paint the fence that surrounds the estate.
