A weekend set to be spent getting to grips with DIY was instead swapped for a motorsport event, it has been revealed. In an interview with Halesown News, motorcycle racer Michael Rutter reveals how he had intended to spend last weekend tackling home improvements. However, following an injury to Simon Andrews, Rutter was called in on shirt notice to put down the brush and get on a MSS Colchester Kawasaki for the British Superbikes Championship event at Brands Hatch."It was looking like I was going to spend the weekend painting. But when this late call came, I jumped at the chance to put the paintbrush away and get on to the bike," Rutter tells the publication. And doing so appears to have paid off as he picked up 11 points over the two-day event, leaving him in 15th place in the Championship rankings. But Rutter has not been alone in temporarily putting down a DIY project for sporting purposes as football manager Ian Holloway revealed to the Sun in May that after getting the job as boss at Blackpool, he left the job of painting his lounge for his wife to complete.
